The Export Managers Association of California (EMAC) and its partners, the Export Small Business Development Center and the State of California Office of Export Development, managed the Ready-to-Export Domestic Trade Show Program. Ready-to-Export prepared small and medium size companies in California to maximize domestic trade shows as a vehicle to obtain foreign trade leads and trained them on proper trade-lead follow up. Export activities center around key industry clusters which comprise the majority of California export activity including information technology, telecommunications, aerospace, environment, medical, electronics, and consumer goods.

In 1991, EMAC formed a partnership with the Small Business Administration and the State of California to host the Export Small Business Development Center (Export SBDC), a new public/private organization dedicated to helping exporters. The Export SBDC's mission is to expand the region's exports by providing direct expert assistance, at no cost, to seasoned exporters and potential exporters alike. Summary of Proposal

Oahu Economic Development Board (OEDB), formerly The Economic Development Corporation of Honolulu (EDCH) assembled a consortium of state economic development agencies, three health care providers, a trade association, and a research university to carry out this project. The first stage included extensive market research in target markets. Marketing and promotional materials will then be developed in the language of potential customers. Organizational Information

OEDB was established in 1984 as one of four regional economic development boards in the state of Hawaii. In 1994, the organization adopted a new approach to regional economic development: implementation of private-sector led projects that improved the competitiveness of local industry clusters identified as "drivers" of the economy. To do this, OEDB began to bring together representatives from business, government, private-sector unions, education, and the community to its Board of Directors. Their purpose is to increase, via a collaborative approach, the economic vitality, quality of life, and industrial competitiveness of the region. One of OEDB's primary activities is the creation of public-private partnerships that pool resources for export-driven strategies and activities required by key industries such as market research, trade missions, and market-entry programs.
