Activity linked to hotel bookings
Capital Region USA (CRUSA) has used its MDCP award to maximize export revenues by increasing hotel room night bookings across the Region through cooperative marketing partnerships with overseas tour operators.
The organization worked with 15 tour operators selected during 2010 through a competitive process in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Mexico, Brazil and Korea. Across all of the operators, CRUSA completed 55 consumer and trade marketing promotions that reached an estimated 19 million overseas consumers and helped to generate 46,233 hotel room night bookings in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia. Using a model that factors in per-person per-day spending by overseas travelers, these bookings resulted in approximately $4.3 million in overseas visitor spending in the Region, which in turn generated 25 new jobs. Five SME organizations, including three destination marketing organizations, ARAMARK and Amtrak, partnered with CRUSA in the execution of its marketing campaigns with the tour operators.
