Exports and Investment: A Winning Formula for GrowthA
message from Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco
Sánchez. Follow him on Twitter @UnderSecSanchez.
Every day, the dedicated staff at the International Trade Administration (ITA) across the country works with cities,
states and businesses to help them export products and services to markets
across the globe. Some of the areas where we are focusing our efforts
include generating more environmental
and construction
machinery exports, advocating
on behalf of businesses, and even helping exports from our
top-notch entertainment
industry.
Our work is paying off: in the first quarter of
2013, we saw the highest
U.S. quarterly export totals on record.
While U.S. exports and outward investment is
important to our economy, investing in America is also vital. Why? Because
investment in the U.S. helps to create jobs in communities all across the
country and strengthens our economy.
Our nation continues to lead the world in foreign
direct investment, but we are facing competition from the rest of the world
than in years past. In order to make sure more businesses choose to invest in
America, President Obama in 2011 established the SelectUSA
program, which is housed in ITA.
Recently, we announced the first-ever SelectUSA
Investment Summit, taking place in Washington, Oct. 31 to
Nov. 1. The summit will bring together international and domestic investors,
the business community, economic development organizations from across the
country, and federal government experts to exchange ideas and seek
opportunities for greater investment in the U.S. We will remind global
investors of all the reasons
to choose to invest in the United States.
Our SelectUSA staff is going to be very busy over
the next few months planning what will surely be an outstanding conference. I
thank them in advance for their hard work and dedication.
As we live in a more interconnected and globalized
economy, we will work to ensure international trade remains a two-way street
with strong exports and a solid investment in America.
Stay tuned to updates
on the SelectUSA
Investment Summit and I hope to see many of you here in
Washington for the conference!
