Alternative Aviation Fuels Showcase

Thank you Rich. It is my pleasure to be here with you today to support this exciting new industry.
One of our main goals in Manufacturing and Services, which is the division of Commerce’s International Trade Administration (ITA) that I oversee, is to foster conditions that allow U.S. firms to successfully compete overseas.
Nowhere have these principles been more evident in our work with CAAFI and Kallman Worldwide to promote aviation alternative fuels. Our work with CAAFI began in 2008, when we hosted the entire alternative fuels supply chain for the first meeting of the CAAFI business team.
Over the past year, my staff has been pleased to work with this aviation team to promote greater collaboration between the aviation alternative fuels industry and the investment community.
This week also marks a significant new milestone in our public-private effort to promote the commercial development of aviation alternative fuels. Just a year ago, I met with several alternative fuels manufacturers at the Farnborough Air Show.
Earlier this week, I had a chance to follow up with some of you and learn about the remarkable progress you have made since we last met. This progress has manifested itself in your new and expanded participation here in Paris.
The incredible accomplishments of the companies at the display demonstrate that we are clearly on the right path to achieving the clean energy future envisioned by President Obama.
And importantly, they demonstrate the ever-widening support for aviation alternative fuels not only within the airline community but within the entire aerospace industry, across the U.S. government, in France, and around the world. That interest can be easily seen just by looking at the agenda for today’s program, which includes the entire supply chain for aviation alternative fuels with representatives from eight countries and four continents.
The desire for cleaner, more sustainable fuel sources is a global concern, and everyone on the planet will receive the environmental benefits by reducing our dependence on petroleum fuels.
Our commitment to your success will foster a green economy. In the U.S. and globally, we are counting on companies like yours to lead the way in winning the jobs and industries of the future.
As President Obama said, we must seize the moment and accelerate the transition to clean energy. We in the International Trade Administration look forward to continuing our work with all of you here and our interagency partners back in Washington so that we may win the future for aviation and for the world.
