U.S. Department of Commerce Releases First Spanish-Language Trade Finance Guide
Easy-to-Use Guide Helps Small Businesses Export
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration has published the inaugural Spanish language version of the Trade Finance Guide: A Quick Reference for U.S. Exporters. The guide is an easy-to-understand and use tool created specifically to help U.S. small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) overcome one of their major export challenges, how to get paid from export sales, thereby helping turn their export opportunities into actual sales.
“Since the publication of its first edition in 2007, the Trade Finance Guide has been an invaluable tool to America’s SME exporters, their foreign buyers, and their financial institution partners,” said Francisco Sánchez, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade. “The Guide’s Spanish language version will help U.S.-based Hispanic and Latino-owned SMEs enter, compete, and succeed in global markets, especially in Spanish-speaking countries.”
Written in easy-to-understand language, with each chapter only two pages long, the Trade Finance Guide has been widely distributed as a self-learning tool to exporters, as a counseling tool to financial institution professionals, and as an educational tool for college professors teaching international business.
The guide was created in partnership with the Finance, Credit, and International Business Association (FCIB) and in cooperation with the U.S. Export–Import Bank, the U.S. Small Business Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the International Factoring Association, the Association of Trade & Forfaiting in the Americas, and the Bankers Association for Finance & Trade–International Financial Services Association.
The guide’s Spanish language version was made possible through partial funding from the California Centers for International Trade Development and in collaboration with FCIB and the U.S. Commerce Department’s Minority Business Development Agency.
The Trade Finance Guide and its inaugural Spanish language version are available online for easy download at the U.S. government’s export portal, Export.gov/TradeFinanceGuide.
