U.S. Department of Commerce Helped American Company Secure $12.5 Million Deal Abroad
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE HELPED AMERICAN COMPANY SECURE $12.5 MILLION DEAL ABROAD
WASHINGTON — Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sánchez today announced that TCI International, a Fremont, California-based subsidiary of SPX Corporation, signed a contract in December 2012 with Macedonia’s Agency for Electronic Communications (AEC). TCI will supply a national spectrum monitoring system in Macedonia, install, integrate, and test the system, provide training on its use, and provide a warranty for its operation. The total value of this procurement is $12.5 million – with 100 percent of that revenue staying in the United States – and will support 63 American jobs.
“TCI is one of the many American companies benefiting from our commercial advocacy efforts to make sure U.S. businesses are competing on a level playing field,” said Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sánchez. “Exports support nearly 10 million jobs around the country and reached an all-time high of $2.2 trillion in 2012. The work of our Advocacy Center is more important than ever, and I congratulate TCI on receiving this important contract.”
The company requested commercial advocacy from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Advocacy Center in December 2012. Coordinated through the Advocacy Center, representatives of the U.S. government stressed the importance of a fair and transparent tender process to the AEC directly. The company also received consultation from the team regarding economic conditions in Macedonia and its telecommunications and IT sector. In addition, U.S. Ambassador to Macedonia Paul Wohlers advocated on behalf of TCI.
TCI ultimately beat out two German companies, Rohde & Schwarz and LS Telecom, for the contract.
Since its creation in 1993, the Advocacy Center has coordinated U.S. Government resources to help hundreds of American companies, including small, medium and large enterprises in various industry sectors, win government contracts across the globe. In Fiscal Year 2012, the Advocacy Center recorded the U.S. Government’s best year to date: client companies reported 53 wins with a total estimated value of $87.1 billion and U.S. export content of $73.9 billion. The U.S. export content supports an estimated 369,500 American jobs.
