Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco SÁnchez Arrives in Mongolia to Advance Commercial Relationship
Highest-ranking U.S. Department of Commerce Official Ever to Visit Nation
ULAANBAATAR, MONGOLIA – Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sánchez arrived in Ulaanbaatar today for a series of meetings and discussions with Mongolian government and private sector leaders to promote expansion of the U.S.-Mongolia commercial relationship. Under Secretary Sánchez is the highest-ranking U.S. Department of Commerce official to visit Mongolia.
“My visit to Mongolia reiterates the importance of the expanding U.S.-Mongolia trade relationship to President Obama and businesses across America. I look forward to working with Mongolian public and private sector officials to further our development as trading partners,” Sánchez said. “I’m aware there are challenges to overcome in our growing commercial relationship, but I believe there is a strong commitment within Mongolia to improve the business climate and enhance transparency in order to attract the foreign direct investment and the world-class products and services necessary for your continued economic growth.”
The Department of Commerce has a strong working relationship with the Government of Mongolia, which includes the organization of capacity building programs such as the annual U.S.-Mongolia Business Forum and participation in bilateral discussions, as well as engagement with U.S. companies interested in the Mongolian market.
U.S. exports to Mongolia have grown by more than 1,500 percent since 2009 – reaching $665 million in 2012.###
