Commerce Trade Official to Abu Dhabi Community: 'Let's Work Together to Build 21st Century Infrastructure that Promotes Jobs and Growth for Both our Peoples'
U.S. Delegation Arrives in Abu Dhabi to Continue Trade Mission
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates – Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sánchez and a delegation of 14 U.S. companies arrived in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.), today, the second stop in a transportation infrastructure mission. In 2009, the Abu Dhabi government initiated a $25 billion dollar plan designed to develop a world-class transport system that supports the city’s growing population.
“Abu Dhabi represents an opportunity for U.S. firms,” Sánchez said. “The leadership here has correctly recognized that for a city to succeed in the 21st century economy, it must have 21st century transportation infrastructure. American companies have the products and ideas to help this effort, and we look forward to identifying new ways for all of us to build a stronger future together.”
The participating U.S. companies are world leaders in aviation, airport and port security, railroad technology, construction and related sectors. During a two-day period, the delegation will participate in a series of discussions with senior United Arab Emirates officials and leaders of several major Abu Dhabi-based companies.
“Our delegation is excited by all the possibilities and potential to do business here,” Sánchez said. “By helping Abu Dhabi — and, in the larger picture, U.A.E — meet its long-term economic development goals, we can create opportunities for U.S. companies and support jobs here at home. It’s a win for all parties.”
The visit supports President Obama’s National Export Initiative which aims to double U.S. exports by the end of 2014. In 2010, U.S. exports to U.A.E. totaled nearly $12 billion dollars.
