Affirmative Determination:
Countervailing Duty Investigation of Structural
Steel Beams
from the Republic of Korea
On
July 7, 1999, a petition was filed with the Department of Commerce
(the Department) against structural steel beams from Korea. On
August 3, 1999, the Department initiated a the CVD investigation.
On December 14, 1999, the Department issued its Preliminary
Determination in which it determined that countervailable
subsidies are not being provided to producers and exporters of
structural steel beams from the Republic of Korea. However, on
June 26, 2000, the Department issued an affirmative Final Determination
in which it determined that countervailable subsidies are being
provided to producers and exporters of subject merchandise. The
ad valorem rates determined in the final determination
are listed below.
PETITIONERS:
The petition was filed on behalf Northwestern Steel
and Wire Co., Nucor-Yamato Steel Co., TXI-Chaparral Steel Co.,
and the United Steelworkers of America AFL-CIO.
PRODUCT
DESCRIPTION:
The
merchandise subject to this investigation is structural steel
beams. The technical language describing the scope of this investigation
are included in the Final Determination notice which will
be published in the Federal Register.
CASE
CALENDAR:
The
following determinations will be made no later than these statutory
deadlines:
International
Trade Commission (ITC) Final Determination: 45 days after
the publication of the Final Determination in the Federal
Register.
Issuance
of Order: 7 days after an affirmative Final Determination
by the ITC. A negative determination by the ITC will result in
a termination of this investigation.
