On Wednesday, October 10, 2001, the Department of Commerce announced
its preliminary determination for the above-referenced investigation.
We found that the three largest
exporters of IQF red raspberries from Chile did not receive countervailable
subsidies during the period of investigation.
Background:
The petition was filed May 31, 2001,
by the IQF Red Raspberries Fair Trade Committee which is an ad
hoc association of growers and processors of IQF red raspberries,
all of which are located in Washington state and Oregon. The Department
initiated this investigation on June 20, 2001, after a careful
review of the allegations contained in the petition.
Product Description:
The scope of these investigations
includes imports of individually
quick frozen (IQF) whole or broken red raspberries from Chile,
with or without the addition of sugar or syrup, regardless of
variety, grade, size or horticulture method (e.g., organic
or not), the size of the container in which packed, or the method
of packing. Specifically excluded from the investigation ar fresh
red raspberries and block frozen red raspberries (i.e.,
puree, straight pack, juice stock, and juice concentrate).
The technical language describing the scope of the investigation
will be included in the notice of our preliminary determination,
which will be published in the Federal Register.
