FACT SHEET
Final Determination in the Antidumping Investigation on Imports of Tetrahydrofurfuryl Alcohol from the People's Republic of China On June 14, the Department of Commerce (Department) announced its final determination in the antidumping (AD) investigation on imports of tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol (THFA) from the People's Republic of China (PRC). We have found that imports of THFA from the PRC were sold in the U.S. market at less than fair value, with a margin of 136.86 percent. Next Steps: The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) is scheduled to announce its final injury determination on or about July 26. If the ITC makes an affirmative determination that imports of THFA are materially injuring, or threatening to materially injure, the domestic industry in the United States, then the Department will issue an antidumping order and instruct U.S. Customs and Border Protection to collect antidumping duties. If the ITC makes a negative injury determination, the investigation will be terminated and no order will be issued. Petitioner: The petition requesting this investigation was filed by Penn Specialty Chemicals, Inc. (headquartered in Plymouth Meeting, PA, with a plant in Memphis, TN). Product Description: For the purpose of this investigation, the product covered is tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol (C 5H 10O 2). THFA, a primary alcohol, is a clear, water white to pale yellow liquid. THFA is a member of the heterocyclic compounds known as furans and is miscible with water and soluble in many common organic solvents. THFA is currently classified in the Harmonized Tariff Schedules of the United States (HTSUS) under subheading 2932.13.00.00, which also includes merchandise outside the scope of this investigation. Although the HTSUS subheadings are provided for convenience and customs purposes, the Department's written description of the merchandise under review is dispositive. Case Calendar:
* This will take place only in the event of final affirmative determinations by both the Department and the ITC .
