Springfield, Massachusetts Native, Linda Mysliwy Conlin Appointed as Assistant Secretary for Trade Development at the U.S. Department of Commerce

Washington, DC -- Linda Mysliwy Conlin, a native of Springfield, Massachusetts, was recently nominated by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as the Assistant Secretary for Trade Development at the United States Department of Commerce.

Conlin's 22 years experience as an international marketing and management executive, includes an extensive public service background of promoting commerce on both the state and federal level. As the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Trade Development, Conlin will work with U.S. industries to promote U.S. exports to global markets. Whether it is participating in critical trade negotiations, managing industry-specific business development missions to overseas markets or advocating on behalf of American bidders for international contracts, Conlin will work to keep U.S. businesses preeminent in world commerce.

"Trade Development is the Government's principle link to U.S. industry for both trade promotion and trade policy. Having run a small business myself in the past, I understand that they are the major job creators in our nation. I look forward, therefore, to working with our Trade Development experts in increasing export opportunities for these companies," said Conlin.

"Assistant Secretary Conlin is a great addition to our team. Her experience and expertise will ensure that the International Trade Administration is serving the needs of U.S. exporters," said Commerce Under Secretary for International Trade Grant D. Aldonas.

Most recently, Conlin served as the senior campaign coordinator for Bush/Cheney 2000 in the Southeastern Pennsylvania Region. Previously, Conlin was Deputy to the Program Chair of the 2000 Republican National Convention and has served in two previous Administrations. Under President Reagan, she was the Associate Director for the Office of Private Sector Committees for the U.S. Information Agency. During President George H. W. Bush's Administration, Conlin served as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Marketing in the U.S. Travel and Tourism Administration. She has served as Executive Director of the Office of Travel and Tourism for the State of New Jersey Commerce and Economic Growth Commission.
