The incumbent applies sound knowledge of processes and operations of unit programs to provide continuing substantive assistance to senior personnel.

II Major Duties and Responsibilities

Provides a variety of substantive and operational functions in support of the organizations programs and services.

Assists senior specialists by providing direct program and operational support in a variety of areas. These include preparing information requiring a sound understanding of the program area involved; managing program area operating data bases; preparing, distributing, and tracking progress of documents and action items; and assuming responsibility for one or more program segments not requiring knowledges or skills of a specialist.

Incumbent receives few preliminary instructions because assignments evolve from the established flow of work for which their organizations are responsible. Work in progress is reviewed only when deviations from established procedures and methods are necessary. Completed work is reviewed on a sample basis through evaluation of reports and finished products.

Specific agency, bureau, and program guidelines are available as needed for reference purposes. Incumbent, in conjunction with supervisors or senior specialists, selects guidelines for application to individual cases and methods and information to complete assignments. Employee must occasionally adapt procedures and directives to special projects or situations.

Decisions regarding what needs to be done involve various considerations and different sources of program information. Assignments also involve processes which, while related, require different steps to meet specific situations. Incumbent must analyze information and/or evaluate work products in order to assure that objectives/priorities have been met.
