Sidney Taurel is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Eli Lilly and Company.

 

Taurel joined the Lilly subsidiary, Eli Lilly International Corporation, in 1971.  Over the next several years, he held a number of positions in marketing, sales, and management, including posts in Latin America, Eastern Europe, and France. Taurel became Chief Executive Officer in 1998 and Chairman of the Board in 1999.  He has served on the company’s Board of Directors since 1991.

 

A past chairman of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, Taurel currently serves as a member of the Executive Committee of the trade association’s Board of Directors. Taurel is a member of the Board of Directors of IBM Corporation and the McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc.  He serves on the Board of Overseers for the Columbia Business School, the Board of Trustees for the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and the Board of Directors for the RCA Tennis Championships.  In addition, Taurel is a member of The Business Roundtable and The Business Council and serves on the President’s Homeland Security Advisory Council.

 

Born in Casablanca, Morocco, Taurel graduated from École des Hautes Études Commerciales, in Paris, France, in 1969 and received an M.B.A. from Columbia University in 1971.
